Kaarlo Castren

Kaarlo Castren joined the Appellate Body Secretariat of the World Trade Organization in 2001. He has been a legal counselor since 2008, and has served on more than two dozen appeals providing advice on procedural and substantive legal issues to Appellate Body Members. Prior to joining the WTO, Mr. Castren worked for a major international law firm in New York and in Helsinki. He also worked for the Finnish Foreign Ministry on WTO matters, EU law and human rights. Mr. Castren has law degrees from New York University and the University of Helsinki.
